Week 3 Robotics + Art
April 15, 2022
Throughout the course of time art, technology, and robotics has developed industrialization and the way society views the world. Computers are the single piece of technology that has catapulted our society in to a more advanced and electronic world. The printing press was one of the first major mechanical and technological advances in our society. It was truly the beginning of the assembly line, which eventually transformed in to the car industry assembly line.
Nikola Tesla, a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, and scientist, is best known for developing an alternating current. He also formed the basis of wireless communication. This wireless communication is especially common in our society today. This shows how the developments made back then are still common and relative in our every day life to this day. Advances in technology like this is the catalyst in a world that uses this as a form of communication and living.
In Walter Benjamin's "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction" he states, "During long periods of history, the mode of human sense perception changes with humanity’s entire mode of existence". This quote clearly demonstrates how as time goes on and the more technological advances we make, the more our perception changes and the way we go about life/work.Mirenfred, director. Hey James I really liked your use of the historical perspective. Particularly the piece about Nikola Tesla and his contributions to modern technological development. He was responsible for the entire concept of wireless communications which is so integral to the functions of our society today. I also thought the quote at the end was really interesting and the perspective changes to our outlook on technology.
ReplyDeleteHi James, I loved the message at the end explaining the fact that our perception about how we go about life changes the more technology advances. The examples of the printing press and the general assembly line, and the inventions of Nikola Tesla that you mentioned are all great support for this idea. These were some of the biggest catalysts that had the most profound changes to human life and perception ever. This really made me think of how so much of our history and current lives are really based on just a few main inventions and how impactful it really is.
