As a first-year student at UCLA, I have had many opportunities to work and earn volunteer hours at

homeless shelters. Understanding a different perspective by getting to talk to the less fortunate people

in the homeless shelter made me understand the idea of two cultures. The two cultures in this aspect

would be understanding the problem of homelessness and doing something about it and not doing

 something about.

During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to write an essay in online school about

the homelessness problem on Skid Row. While writing this paper, it made me realize how few

programs there are to help homeless people get back to a normal life. I decided to take a literary

approach since I don't think of myself as a science-minded person. I did this by being an advocate for

these people.

Being able to understand someone's story is different from being able to act upon it. I think this is what

distinguishes the two cultures in this situation. Taking a literary approach in this situation I believe

would be the most effective. Being able to get the word around and express what these people are

feeling is so crucial. Most of these people don't have the opportunity to share their story and advocate

for themselves so I wish to do it for them. I agree with C.P. Snow when he states, "Much of it rests on

misinterpretation which are dangerous" (Snow 6). This shows how a misinterpretation, specifically

somebody's life story, can affect their life in a harmful way. That is why I hope to clear that

misinterpretation and misinformation.
